SHAFTS
The golf shaft is the most important element
in the performance of a club. It is like the engine in a car.
FLEXIBILITY: The flexibility of a shaft is
really the amount of "bend" that the shaft will produce during
the swing or when a weight is applied to the tip end.
Manufacturers measure flex using a flex board. The grip is
clamped with the shaft in a horizontal position, a prescribed
weight is hung from the tip and the amount of deflection is
measured in inches. The greater the amount of deflection the
greater the flexibility.

CLUB HEADS
There are hundreds of head designs on the
market .... large, small, cavity back, flow weighted, back
weighted, heel/toe weighted and so on...at this stage in
development, it does appear that a mid size to oversize,
perimeter weighted head will work for most players. In most
cases, the playability of the club is primarily affected by the
shaft, not the iron head design.

GRIPS
These have improved dramatically over the
past few years....they are still made of various rubber, cork
and canvas compounds but are now more durable and cosmetically
appealing.

LENGTHS &
WEIGHTS
Swing-weighting is a method of expressing the
weight in the head of the club relative to the weight of the
shaft and grip. This relationship is stated in a letter/number
sequence. In a top quality set of clubs the swing-weight readings
on each club, both woods and irons, should be consistent. This
is one aspect of uniformity as required in golf clubs.
